Powered Roller Conveyors
These are available as both line shaft and chain driven formats, both are popular as they have advantages and disadvantages. So on powered roller conveyors what are the differences between chain driven rollers and line shaft driven rollers?
Line shaft Powered Roller Conveyors
These rollers are driven by plastic spools fitted around the roller and hence have direct drive. A major advantage is that they easily accommodate bends and having low maintenance makes them a versatile solution for many applications. Power Rollers are used for both light duty applications as well as the more heavy duty industrial applications. They are suitable for wet or dry conditions and both hot or cold temperatures. These rollers are extremely cost effective and versatile if the correct rollers are selected. Chain Driven Rollers
This type of chain roller is ideal for heavy loads such as pallet handling or larger goods with a flat base (which ensures they stay in position as they move across the rollers). Chain Driven Rollers are not considered suitable for smaller products as these can easily get trapped between rollers. With this type of conveyor you would need turn tables to achieve a change of direction of flow as chain rollers are not suitable for accommodating corners.
If no power is required then gravity rollers which are driven by gravity alone would be suitable. Please view our Gravity Roller Conveyors
Roller Conveyors are very flexible and can be used when products need transporting around curves, typically going on a flat or slight decline orientation though a slight incline can be accommodated. Many products can be moved by rollers but it is more suitable for larger items of a reasonable weight. Smaller or loose items are more suited to belt conveyors or modular belt conveyors as they could interfere with the roller action.
What ever your requirement Wrightfield provide a full range of powered roller conveyors from single units (Bends, Product Stopper, Cross Transfers, Product Alignment, Diverts, Mergers, Rotary turntables) to fully integrated systems.
