Juliette balcony railings are structural adornments that permit bedrooms and lounge areas to be fitted with full length glazed doors – allowing extra light to enter a room without compromising on safety.

When designing juliette balcony railings, some important criteria to consider include:

  1. Strength and durability: The railing should be able to support the weight of people leaning on it or falling against it. It should be made of strong and durable material like stainless steel, aluminum or wrought iron.
  2. Code compliance: The railing should comply with local building codes and regulations, including height, spacing, and load-bearing requirements.
  3. Aesthetics: The railing should complement the architectural style of the building and should be visually pleasing.
  4. Safety: The railing should have no large spaces or gaps that could allow someone to fall through. It should be designed to prevent climbing or other hazardous activities.
  5. Weather resistance: The railing should be able to withstand the elements and maintain its structural integrity over time.
  6. Maintenance: The railing should be easy to clean and maintain to keep it looking its best.
  7. Cost: The railing should be cost-effective and meet the budget constraints of the project.
  8. Transparency: The railing should be designed in such a way that it does not block the view of the building or the surroundings while providing adequate safety measures.

What’s in a Name?

The Juliette balcony railing, also sometimes alternatively spelt Juliet balcony railing, take its names from the famous Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet. Juliet has a balcony to her bedroom window, which is referenced in a scene when Romeo professes his love for her.

As you may expect from a balcony with such Romantic beginnings, the Juliette railings are an attractive feature that can add a touch of class to a building. They are often galvanised to provide a nice looking finish.

However, despite this eye pleasing exterior, the units are typically made from extremely tough and durable materials, such stainless steel. This helps to ensure that the railings are robust enough to provide a strong safety barrier and sufficiently resistant to withstand the elements.  Ultimately, the unites should provide long lasting service over very many years.
